Cathedral Bells

Cobaea scandens. AKA the Cup and Saucer Vine, this easy-to-grow climbing vine is best sown directly into the garden in full sun (and very good water drainage) after all threat of frost has passed. There is nothing more pleasing than a curtain of its trumpet-shaped, green to violet flowers supported on a well-placed trellis, fence or concealed netting. Annual. Summer flowering. Height: 10' to 12'.

A native Mexican heirloom dating back to the early 1800s, this rambling vine produces dense, vibrant deep green foliage and large, 4", trumpet- to bell-shaped green flowers that mature to deep violet with a vague honey fragrance. The gradual change from green to violet is a quite fascinating metamorphosis~encourage your children to watch the magic unfold.
