Dahlia variabilis. Cottage garden heirlooms originating from Mexico, these special Dahlias are easy to grow from seed. They work well as a border plant, but even more importantly, they are great cutting flowers. Dahlias are best started indoors 4 to 6 weeks prior to the last spring frost date. Dahlias are tender perennials, so their tubers must be dug and stored in dry peat moss after a fall frost has killed the stems and leaves. Bee friendly. Deer resistant. Tender perennial. Hardiness zones: 8-10, can be grown as an annual. Summer flowering. Height: 30" to 39".
