This charming mixture has cup-and-saucer flowers in shades of deep to light purple, pink and white. Another cottage garden favorite perfect for mixed borders as well as cutting gardens, their high nectar content will keep your birds, bees, butterflies and hummingbirds happy (you too!). Biennial.     • Campanula medium calycanthema. This native Pyrenee mountain heirloom has 2 to 3 stalks studded with long, bell-shaped flowers that really look like so many cups and saucers. Start them indoors 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting outside after all threat of frost has passed. Canterbury Bells are biennial that will yield foliage the first year, and flowers the second year. Plant new seedlings each year to keep them populating your beds. Biennial. Hardiness zones: 3-11. Summer flowering. Height: 2' to 3' .

      Campanula medium calycanthema. Canterbury Bells should be started indoors at least 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting outside after all danger of frost has passed. Sow seeds on top of the soil mix, leaving the seeds uncovered but pressed onto the soil surface, as light is needed for germination. Provide even moisture and strong light during germination. Prepare a garden bed that is in full to partial sunlight with rich, well-draining soil. Harden the plants off by gradually acclimating them to outside conditions over 1 to 2 weeks. Carefully transplant the seedlings, planting them 8" to 12" apart. To encourage branching and flower production, pinch back the young plants. This cottage garden favorite is also a wonderful cutting flower. Summer flowering. Height: 24" to 36".
