Dandelion

Not at all a Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) but a member of the ancient Chicory family (Chichorium intybus), these pleasantly bitter leaves are much loved by Italians in cold and warm salads, soups, stews, and braised vegetable sides. The plants stand erect, up to 12" tall and have thick rosettes of leaves resembling those of common Dandelions. Preferring cool temperatures, Catalogna should be sowed in early spring and/or in the fall.

Average seed life: 3 years.
