  • Information
  • Ipomoea quamoclit. Cousins Cypress Vine and Cardinal Climber are often confused, because they both have small scarlet flowers and ferny foliage, but Cypress Vine is even more impossibly fine-textured. It attracts hummingbirds and butterflies in droves, is deer-resistant and may self-sow. Cypress Vine prefers full sun and moist, well-drained soil. Soak seeds overnight and either direct sow after the last frost date or start indoors 4 to 6 weeks earlier. Harden off seedlings by slowly introducing them to the outdoors over the course of a week before transplanting into the garden, 8" to 12" apart, at the base of a trellis or other form of support. Annual. Summer flowering. Height: 6' to 12'.

Average seed life: 2 to 3 years.
