  • An Asian herb related to Mint and Basil, it is also known as Perilla, Beefsteak Plant, Ji Soo, Chinese Basil or Rattlesnake Weed. It is a large, bushy, well-branched annual that grows up to 3' tall. Its fuzzy, sharply serrated leaves have the bold, complex flavor of Cilantro and Cumin with a hint of Cinnamon. Easy to grow, Shiso can be sown directly into the garden after the last frost date or may be started indoors 10 weeks earlier. Shiso may be sautéed, pickled or used fresh to flavor rice, fish, soups, stir-fries and salads. Deer resistant.
