Snacking Sunflower Mixture

65 days. These 5'-tall Sunflowers can be grown for their vibrant yellow, 8”-wide flowers alone, but their jumbo seeds are what makes them truly special, large enough for snacking and for feeding the local birds. The mix contains both single-stemmed and branching varieties and makes a wonderful hedge. To harvest for snacking, wait until the petals begin to dry and fall, the base of the flower begins to turn yellow and brown and the seeds are plump and beginning to loosen from the head. Cut the flower from the stem with about an inch of stem and then rub the seeds from the head with your fingers. Roast the seeds for 30-40 minutes at 300°F, checking every 10 minutes or so until they're perfect. Average seed life: 3 years.
