  • Echinacea is a traditional favorite in summer bouquets with daisy-like flowers, wide, deep green foliage and strong, thick stems. An essential component of summer butterfly gardens, its flowers are like butterfly magnets and, later, its seed attracts goldfinches. Coneflowers thrives in most soil conditions with full to dappled sunlight. Soak seeds in tepid water for 24 hours prior to sowing. Start Coneflowers indoors at least 6 weeks before the last spring frost date to promote first year flowering. Bee friendly. Deer resistant. Perennial. Hardiness zone: 5-9 depending upon variety.
